Discover Lanzarote This Summer
Thanks to the credit crunch and lower demand there’s plenty of great value holiday deals available across the Canaries this summer. Making holidays on islands such as Lanzarote every bit as affordable as a stay-cation in the UK. With discounts available on a wide selection of hotels, apartments and Lanzarote villas.
Lanzarote is the ideal destination for anyone that likes to combine sightseeing with sunbathing. As whilst the island boasts over ninety beaches and great weather it also offers a wide range of visitor attractions and natural beauty spots.
Lanzarote is probably best known for it’s volcanic terrain. As around one quarter of the island is covered in lava as a result of a series of eruptions a few hundreds years ago.
The Timanfaya National Park features on every tourist’s itinerary. But there are also plenty of other lesser known volcanic spots that are well worth visiting. Such as the Green Lagoon at El Golfo. Where an inland lake has formed on the black sand beach close to the village of the same name. Coloured green by an interaction between salty sea water and minerals and algae. Creating a striking emerald coloured lagoon. This site is so surreal that it has been used as a backdrop for a number of sci-fi films such as Krull and One Million Years BC.
Close by lie the Boiling Pots at Los Hervidores. Where the power of the sea has eroded the volcanic coastline. Creating a series of chambers and blow holes that spurt water high into the air as the waves come crashing in. In the car park nearby visitors can also pick up samples of the semi-precious stone olivine which is found in abundance in this part of the island.
Heading north along Lanzarote´s wilder north east coast visitors come to the breathtaking bay of Famara. Home to what is widely regarded as the most beautiful beach on the island. Which is a perfect horseshoe shape and around 8km long. Flanked at one end by the impressive Famara massif range of cliffs. Which stand around 450 metres high. It was here that the island born artist Cesar Manriquefirst fell in love with the natural beauty of Lanzarote. And it’s easy to see why.
From Famara visitors can continue to head north into the greenest part of the island. Home to El Bosque – Lanzarote´s very own small wood. And the Valley of 1000 Palms – a striking palm packed valley that very much resembles an African oasis.
