Things You Should Know About Taking A Vacation In Cambridge, England

Cambridge is known throughout the world for being the home of the University of Cambridge, one of the most prestigious learning centres in Britain. The University is made up of 31 colleges including; Newnham College, Pembroke College, Peterhouse and Queens’ College which greatly effect the city. Although a large number of folk come to Cambridge with their main intention being to visit the University, Cambridge has many more attractions besides the University. Fortunately there is a varied selection of bed and breakfast in Cambridge to choose from (Important: see last paragraph).

The city is an ancient town dating back to the medieval period and therefore there there are numerous fine examples of superb architecture. One can stroll amongst the medieval streets, enjoy one of the various gardens and parks or even take a punt along the river. If the idea of going punting inspires you, then you can hire a punt or alternatively you can rent a chauffeured punt. You will find a fair number of firms offering this service along the river. Another idea is a cruise down the river in a narrow boat.

Cambridge is also well known for its churches, with thirteen of them situated within the boundaries of Cambridge. Of the thirteen churches found in the centre of Cambridge it is All Saints Church which is generally accepted as one of the finest samples of Gothic revival architecture to be found in the country. A further church that is well worth visiting is Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is one of only 4 round Norman churches in England. The tiniest church in Cambridge is St Peter’s, which hides in a peaceful part of the town centre. Probably the best panoramas across the city of Cambridge and colleges of the University can be witnessed from the viewpoint of the Great St Mary’s Church, the University church.

As there is a vast collection of visitor attractions to see in Cambridge, it would be near impossible to visit all of them in just one day. Therefore we advise that you stay for at least two days in Cambridge. If you and your family are currently deciding upon spending a few days in Cambridge it is incredibly important that you book your accommodation at the earliest opportunity because, unfortunately Cambridge guest houses and hotels tend to be amazingly busy and are commonly fully booked for weeks or even months in advance.
