During these difficult time, often called the credit crunch, many people are currently examining their lifestyle and attempting to cut expenditure. An easy choice for many is to take a vacation in the United Kingdom of Great Britain the reason for which is that the pound sterling is so weak against other currencies leading to the fact that foriegn vacations for the English are more expensive than in decades past and dramatically less expensive for those people coming from the U.S.A. and Europe. In the following article I introduce the seaside town of Southport, in the North West of England.

Southport is a delectable town situated on the English North West coast. Visitor attractions include, Churchtown village, the Botanic Gardens at Churchtown, Churchtown village, Southport Pier, Lord Street, Wayfarers’ Arcade, Hesketh Park and more. Lord Street is the main street in Southport. All along one side of the street the wide pavement are covered by superb Victorian iron work and a row of lush green trees closer to the road. Over on the opposite side of the road you are greeted with  pools and fountains, flower beds and gardens and a Victorian bandstand. Right in the heart of Lord Street is more than likely the most lavish war monuments in England with a centrally placed obelisk and 2 other monuments on either side which have huge columns. Lord Street features some of the finest architecture to be found in Southport and it is where you will find the Victorian Wayfarers’ Arcade.

At the very end Lord Street you will discover the wonderful Hesketh Park. Hesketh Park is named after the Hesketh family and like Lord Street it is heavily wooded. There are beautiful hidden areas to be discovered, a play park, glass house, bandstand and more to be found within Hesketh Park but the lake is the most prominent feature.

At Churchtown you will find another wonderful park, the Botanic Gardens which has a a long stretch of still water which appears like a river which features boats for hire, a beautiful footbridge, swans, ducks and other wildlife plus if you enjoy birds and animals the gardens also has a very small zoo, just opposite the museum and cafe. Churchtown village itself is a beautiful number of old houses, cottages and fishermen’s cottages most commonly white and a few have a roof of thatch. It is vital that you take a walk around and that you are not afraid to look down alleys as there are a small number of hidden places of interest well worth the trouble to discover.

Finding Southport bed and breakfast is pretty easy with a varied selection of hotels and guest houses in Southport available to book online. There are guest houses suitable for all tastes and budgets from from luxurious to cheap and cheerful in the town centre and outside.
