Paris Art

Art Tour Paris

So, you’ve visited the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, the Champs Elysées and the Picasso Museum. Some true Parisian classics. But have you visited the real art of Paris. This may sound ridiculous, but there’s a new art emerging from the streets of Paris that doesn’t include putting a foot in a museum. Forget about the usual tourist attractions, the ones you’ve seen a million times; anyone who is truly interested in art needs to read on and learn about the best hidden secret of Paris; Urban Art.

To many, Urban Art is synonymous to vandalism. Graffiti; destruction. However, we’re not simply talking about tags (those scribbles you often see on walls) but some actual pieces of art. Graffiti has come a long way since the days when groups of fourteen year olds congregated around street corners with a can of spray paint just to write their name in an incomprehensible scribble on a backstreet wall. Urban art is about creating a statement; political, cultural and social. This is why many artists have been working on the streets for years; the pure pleasure of creating and the statement that it projects is enough for the artists. Receiving millions of dollars for a piece is not on their list of priorities, although it is a bonus and it does happen; just look at Banksy for example.

If the politics behind urban art has inspired you to discover this new world, then a trip to Paris is a real must. There is even a company that does tours of Paris’s best street art. They’ll take you around the 5th and 13th arrondissement and show you some of the most powerful graffiti you ever would have seen.

Theres an abundance of apartamento en Paris avilable in the city centre and it’s definitely worth having a look around as the Paris hotel

Peak District Holidays – Bamford

Bamford is becoming a very popular and sought after destination for Peak District holidays, and even if you are not staying here during your holiday it is well worthy of a visit if you are in the vicinity of the high moorlands.

More modern than some of the other villages around the area Bamford also has an 18 hole golf course at Sickleholme.

Bamford is a top destination for Holidays in Peak District and also a great place to visit when traveling through the Peaks area.

Located between Sheffield and Manchester, the village is situated in the midst of high moorlands. At the north of the village are the To the west lies Win Hill; and the Derwent river flows right through this lovely village.

This is a village with a lot of history, going back to the Domesday Book. Until 1780, Bamford was a largely agrarian village. However, the corn mill burned and was sold and converted to a water powered cotton mill.

The Howden and Derwent dams were built in 1901 and are a mere seven miles from Bamford, in the upper Derwent valley. A temporary village was built for the workers and their families here, called Birchinlee (but more popularly known as Tin Town due to the construction of the housing).

About 2,000 workers were involved in the dam construction project and to this day, some of their descendents reside here.

Completed in 1945, the Ladybower Reservoir covers over 500 acres downstream of the Derwent dam. When the reservoir was filled, the villages of Derwent and Ashopton were flooded and some of the residents had to be relocated at Yorkshire Bridge. In years of drought conditions, the ruins of Derwent can be seen in the Ladybower Reservoir.

It is precisely these historical attractions and magnificient scenery which draw visitors to Bamford every year for fishing, hiking and biking through the area. There are walking and biking trails surrounding the Derwent, Howden and Ladybower reservoirs which are also ringed by breathtaking scenery.

Built to commemorate the new millennium, the Bamford Touchstone Sculpture Trail comprises a five mile walk around the edge of the village of Bamford. There are maps available to this trail at the village post office, as well as at all of the public houses in Bamford.

When it comes to holidays Peak District National Park has ample accommodation choices on offer – village and country pubs, cottages, pine lodges, bed and breakfasts and well-supplied parks for camping and caravans.

Experience Breathtaking Scenery On An Ireland Vacation

The Republic of Ireland is a terrific country with friendly people. An Ireland vacation offers scenery, history and culture. There is the fine dining and the nightlife of the cities and the splendid rural isolation of the countryside. Many tourists come specifically to enjoy golf or angling.

Dublin, the capital city, has a lot to offer. It’s a treat for keen shoppers looking for Irish crafts, crystal and hand knitted Aran sweaters. There’s plenty of pubs, some old ones with interesting backgrounds and lots of live music. Visitors can take a tour on an open top bus; go on a historical walking tour or a ghost tour. Lovers of Guinness will appreciate the brewery exhibition. There are some fine buildings including the 11th century Christ Church Cathedral, which has an interesting crypt. The Dublin Zoo is situated in Phoenix Park.

The town of Sligo in Sligo County is on the west coast and is increasingly popular as a tourist destination. The area is very attractive and has mountains and renowned beaches. In contrast, for those who like their scenery a bit more rugged, there are the three small islands that make up The Aran Islands in County Galway. The rocky terrain is beautiful and there are stone forts that date back thousands of years.

An Ireland vacation is perfect for keen walkers but a certain nerve is required when walking along the Cliffs of Moher near Doolin in County Clare. The path is not enclosed and is close to a sheer drop in places. It’s not recommended in inclement weather. There is a visitor center and rewarding views at the top.

Castles are a large part of the historical legacy of the country. It’s a good way to learn about history on an Ireland vacation. Trim Castle in County Meath are remains of the largest Norman castle known in Europe. They overlook the River Boyne and are famous for being the location of some scenes in Braveheart, the movie starring Mel Gibson.

Everyone has heard of the Blarney Stone but some people may not realize that it actually exists and isn’t a mere myth. It can be found in Blarney Castle, a medieval pile near the city of Cork. The castle originated in 1200, was destroyed in 1446 and re-built. Today, it is a partial ruin but it’s possible to access some rooms and walk on some battlements. No Ireland vacation can be complete without climbing to the top of the castle and kissing the Blarney Stone.

Legend has it that this rewards the bearer of the kiss with a way with words or the ability to flatter. The surrounding grounds are also worth the trip.
