Living in Cebu
Cebu Philippines is where I have been living for the last four years. In a few days it will have been four years since I set foot in Cebu Philippines. I didn’t know what the future would hold but I came with an open but skeptical mind. Four years later, I’ve made the transition. The new has worn off and I’m still glad to be living in the Philippines.
By moving to the Philippines, I have expanded my choices in life. Two reasons explain most of this. Living in the Philippines cost much less than it does in the USA. The second is at 49 when I first arrived, my dating choices where limited in the USA. Forty-nine years old, overweight and not in the best of health. Plus, I was almost poor in the USA. Having enough money to take a woman out would be difficult.
In the Philippines, I’m not rich by American standards but the average Filipino would think I’m rich. I’m able to travel more because my cost of living in the Philippines is less than living in the USA. Also, the costs of traveling in the Philippines are substantially less than travel in the USA. A hotel usually cost me less than $30 a night. The last time I flew to another location in the Philippines the price of my round-trip ticket was about $75.00. Sometimes you can get them for even less as Cebu Pacific often offers tickets for as little as $1.00 and sometimes they were even free! You still had to pay taxes and surcharges though.
I have a pretty Filipina as my girlfriend. When I put boots on the ground she was 29 years old and we are still together. She is caring and loving and takes such good care of me that it sometimes makes me feel guilty. Tomorrow she’ll be taking a six hour bus trip to get medication for me in Cebu City. She often puts her own best interest behind my own needs. It would be easy to take advantage of her nature and I have to be careful not to do that. My chance of finding a romantic interest in the USA equal to this are null.
My favorite place in Cebu is Bantayan Island. In fact, it is my favorite place in the world. It is only about 2 hours from my home. If you visit there you will find powered white sane beaches with the clearest water you’ve even seen. The best part of this there is usually almost no tourist there. The main exception to that is Holly Week and during that period there will be lots of people visiting Bantayan Island.
Palawan is also a grand place to visit. I visited there last year with my girl and went to the Underground River. It is the longest river under the ground in the world. It is now one of the New Seven Wonders of The World. I also visited Estrella Falls and we had lunch there. During our meal, wild monkeys climbed out of the trees and tried to steal our food! They were fun to watch, I tried to offer them some food from my hand but they showed me a mouth full of teeth. I have a monkey at home that was a rescue. Her name is Juliet and she would have been very pleased instead of showing me a mouth full of sharp fangs.
