Where did they get the name “Chapman Woods?” This area was named after a West Point graduate by the name of Alfred D. Chapman. Chapman bought nearly 2000 acres of land back in 1869. In the warm summer climate the trees provided shade from the sun.

During the later 1940′s the lower part of the property began development following the death of Charles Houston Hastings. Then just over a decade later people began to see the development of the upper section in the 1960′s.
