My Guide to Hunting Safely

The thrill of chasing down a twelve-point buck or bagging a prize-winning turkey sends millions of hunters into the woods every year in search of that prize kill. Hunting is exciting, but it can also be dangerous and even deadly if hunters are not educated and religiously exercise good hunting safety techniques.

The Basics

Before leaving on your hunting trip, prepare yourself well. Never go to an unplanned location or take off on a spontaneous hunting trip. Let others know where you are planning to hunt and when you will be returning. If necessary, leave detailed directions to your hunting grounds with friends or family that will be staying home in case an emergency arises and they need to direct medical personnel to your location. Try to return home as close to your planned time as possible. If you are late checking in, your contact person can then know to set out using your directions to see if you need assistance.

Take the time to prepare your weapon. If using a rifle or shotgun, clean and inspect the weapon after every use and after any time the weapon has spent in storage. Prepare a small first aid kit to carry with you while you are hunting. Consider bringing your cell phone. You can always keep it turned off while you are hunting, and a phone can be the difference between life and death in a medical emergency. Always be prepared to give detailed directions to your exact location as you move through the woods.

In The Woods

Once arriving at your chosen hunting spot, be sure to don your safety gear along with orange-coloured clothing on your head and/or chest to help other hunters in the area determine you from the game. While camouflaged gear is great to help you remain undetected by the animals, it can also confuse other hunters if they see movement from a distance without recognizing the orange colour. If you are hunting in a group, try to keep the location of those around you in your mind as you change positions to help avoid accidents.

If you are using a decoy such as a doe decoy, be sure to use orange safety tape around the perimeter of the area you will be in, to help other hunters recognize your decoy. You can also observe the area from an elevated position to further protect yourself from any stray shots directed at your decoy.

During The Hunt

If you are hunting deer and find yourself tracking a wounded animal, always use extreme caution. Other animals in the area may become panicked at the smell of one of their own running wounded near them. An injured animal is very unpredictable and may likely be desperate to get away if it senses that you are pursuing. Never approach a wounded animal head-on. Never allow yourself to be corned between a solid object and a wounded animal. Always have a way of escape in mind should the animal attack. If attacked, try to protect your head and chest as much as possible to limit damage to your vital organs and increase your chance of survival.

It is also important to be aware of and on the lookout for other animals like bears and snakes that may be encountered while hunting. Being aware of your surroundings is an important step in staying safe while hunting. Use some caution and common sense to ensure many more years of happy hunting yet to come.

What football teams can you set eyes on into Rome ?

I desire start on a serie of some articles about something extremely central in Rome: sport!

And regrettably, some of readers will tell me, I am forced to begin with football : This sport is like a religion for some Romans. Moving now to the heart of what gets the pulse racing of the Romans …

There are a lot of clubs in Rome, the best notorious are AS Roma and Lazio of Rome, which evolve both in Serie A, the Italian primary division. The third club in town, less established, is Cisco Roma.

You be able to note the presence of two clubs in a sport that few English know: the football with 5 players. Again two are fighting for win the hearth of Romans: The AS Roma and LazioColleferro futsal.

You see, to really notice the Roman foot, and I strongly advise you to, you should think about location rome or appartement rome to take the time to enjoy this part of the Roman culture.

AS Roma was 3 times champion of Italy and vice champion 11 times and won the Italian Cup 9 times!

The emblem represents Romulus and Remus suckled by the wolf. The anthem of the team is written in Roman dialect, here is it, thus you will croon it with the Italian tifosi:
Roma Roma Roma core de sta città unico grande amore de tanta e tanta gente che fai Sospir
Roma Roma Roma lassace cannot, da sta voce nasce n’coro so ‘centomila voci che ai fatto’ nnamorà
Roma Roma bella t’ho dipinta io, gialla come er sole rossa come er core mio
Roma Roma mia nun te fà ‘ncantà tu sei nata grande e grande hai da rest
Roma Roma Roma core de ‘sta città unico grande amore de tanta e tanta gente che ai fatto’ nnamorà

Lazio is the other big club in city, the immense rival of Rome. The city is truly separated between the two clubs.

The club was founded in 1900 and is the oldest in the city. He won two national titles and ended second 5 times. Winner of the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1999.
The supporters of the club are loving about their team but at the moment the young Romans look like more oriented towards the Roma with players born in Rome and which are idols as Fransesco o Totti Daniele de Rossi.

Note that the two clubs share the same arena: el stadio Olympico which will be the subject of my next article!

It’s Time For A Maui Vacation!

Deciding to Take a Maui vacation doesn’t have to be an exercise in frustration when it comes to visiting this most magical of the seven Hawaiian Islands. In fact, if done smartly, it’ll hardly be a concern. All it takes is a little forethought, some research on the Internet and a willingness to want to explore the island’s beauty and native Hawaiian way of life.

Maui has always been a popular vacation destination for a lot of people. Newlyweds have been an important part of the tourist base for years. And the idea of strolling on a tropical beach under the evening moon has certainly proven to be a powerful lure. At present, the most active spots on Maui for tourism are the Lahaina/Ka’anapali areas, to the west of the airport, down Highway 30. Maui has a number of very nice resorts and beaches, too.

What’s the best way to get to Maui, these days? It used to be, the only way to fly to Maui was by leaving from a mainland airport and then into Oahu’s international airport and then on an interisland air carrier, but those days have passed by. Nowadays, it’s very easy to leave from a dozen different mainland exit points and straight into Maui’s airport at Kahalui. With flying being so much more popular now, Maui airfare is much more affordable.

From Kahalui, a tourist has the choice of proceeding to Hana, in one direction or to Lahaina and Ka’anapali in the other. Most newcomers to the island do not stray off the main highways until more familiarity is gained with the secondary roads. All of the main attractions can be accessed via these main roads.

Deciding when it’s time for a Maui vacation is just a matter of deciding how pleased to become at the thought of a tropical getaway. There are several towns and villages, in addition to numerous beaches, which should be explored. And if an opportunity presents itself, a journey to the summit of Maui’s volcano, Haleakala – which is also a national park – should be undertaken. The scenery is surely something to behold.

A very important task that shouldn’t be overlooked is to book your accommodation well in advance. Maui hotels can quickly fill up, plus advanced booking usually rewards you with a cheaper room rate.

Finding Good Las Vegas Tours

There’s really only one actual gambling and neon-lit Mecca in the United States, and that’s the city of Las Vegas, Nevada. As far as fast living and fast times goes, it can’t be beat. And this is why it’s important to find Las Vegas tours that work, especially when it’s time to jet off to the desert city.

What are the things, then, which go into making up a Vegas sightseeing excursion? To begin with, take a moment to find out how long it’s going to last. Some may be as short as 90 minutes while a few can go all night. After that, look at the cost. And if it’s desired to tour a certain part of the town, like clubs on the Strip, make sure it does just that.

There is one thing you might want to inquire about, and that’s seeing a few good old-fashioned Las Vegas shows. Many people feel that a trip to Vegas just wouldn’t be the same without catching a show or two!

As far as seeing things on a different level, one can’t go wrong with a plane or helicopter tour of the city at night, bathed as it’ll be in a palette of neon colors. These can be quite an illuminating experience, too. Just take care to check out the reputation of the company before engaging its services.

All of the quality tours take place during the evening hours, to take advantage of the full effect of all that neon and sound present out on the Strip. Also, the longer-lasting tours will take sightseers through several of the clubs and casinos or amusement areas, so be prepared for a long evening of fun. The sights to be taken in can be quite a thing.

Finding good Las Vegas tours just takes a bit of prior planning and an idea of what it is in Vegas that should be seen first – like the Strip – and then second, and so on. There are plenty of tour companies, and they all offer packages tailored to a specific aspect of the town. Just go to the Internet and check out the offerings and then investigate the reputations of each company. In this way, there should be no surprises.

If there is something in particular you want to see, don’t hesitate to ask your guide. Love golf? Why not ask to see a Vegas golf course? Remember, it’s your vacation and the only way you’ll get the most out of it is to see and do what you want.

Lanzarote Tunes Up For Jazz Canarias

The annual Canarias Jazz Festival returns on July 3rd, with concerts across five of the seven islands, many of which are free. This is the eighteenth year of this international festival, which is organised by the Canarian Government.  And tourists staying in Lanzarote villas, hotels and apartments are all invited to attend.

Two concerts are taking place in Lanzarote, on the 3rd and 4th of July. The first of these features the group Mezzoforte, veterans of jazz-funk fusion who have been performing since 1977. Hailing from Iceland, they have built up an international following over the last thirty years, with their 1983 album ‘Garden Party’ probably the best known of their works.

Their music has developed over the years into a distinctive and mature sound, whilst they cite Miles Davis, Weather Report and Earth, Wind and Fire as early influences. With eleven albums under their belt, a twelfth release is anticipated this year.

Following Mezzoforte onstage in Teguise will be the duo Okou. Formed by the singer and composer Tatiana Heintz and the guitarist Gilbert Trefzger, the pair have joined forces to produce new interpretations of rhythm and blues. Tatiana’s previous collaborations have included working with Mick Jagger and the Five Coomers Quintet, whilst Gilbert has been playing guitar since the age of nine. He has worked with the vocalist Roy Ellis and Nitin Sawhney in the recent past.

Okou and Mezzoforte can be seen from 21.00 on Friday 3rd July in the historic quarter of Teguise, where free concerts are held in the market square. The second free concert will take place at the Municipal Theatre in San Bartolomé, also beginning at 21.00 on Saturday 4th July.

Appearing at the San Bartolomé concert will be Lanzarote born guitarist Diego Barber. Critically acclaimed for his compositions and playing, Barber began his musical career with years of classical training in Madrid and Salamanca. It was only when he relocated to New York that he began to experiment with jazz guitar.

The Diego Barber Quartet will be performing works from ‘Calima’, the first composition Barber has written, which has obvious reference to his Canarian birthplace in the title. Barber will be accompanied by Seamus Blake on sax, Ari Hoenig on drums and Johannes Weidenmueller on the bass.

Also playing at San Bartolomé will be the Patricia Kraus Quartet, led by the eponymous singer, who has gone from performing pop music to jazz, soul and blues. A gifted vocalist, Patricia is also known for training singers, from aspiring opera stars to participants in ‘Operación Triunfo’, Spain’s version of X Factor. The quartet comprises Gherardo Catanzaro on keyboard, Daniel Assante on drums and Enrico Barbaro on the bass.

Flipping For Scuba Flippers

Know Thy Flippers
Have you listened to the discussions of professional scuba divers? They talk a lot about fins and propulsion. If you are wondering what it is all about, this piece will help you decode some of the scuba jargon your friends are spewing out like jets of steam. Most likely, you have heard about the scuba flippers, straps, and designs, which are their favorite conversation pieces. Go to Shark cage diving for more information.

The scuba flippers of your childhood has mutated into a more sophisticated device. Continuous research has contributed to the newer, better scuba flippers your friends are raving about. However, they will have comparisons – these reflect their different needs and diving styles.

Different Strokes for Different Fins
There are two variants of the scuba flippers. The full foot fins which you use with bare feet, and the open heel fins which you wear with boots. The full foot fins are best for those snorkeling jaunts while the latter is ideal for scuba diving. You should no longer be confused about the choice you have to make.

If you are still using the standard scuba flippers, you will notice that instead of forward propulsion, you are just propelled up. The flat fin causes a loss of 10% propulsion when you kick because of the 27 degree distance between your heel and the foot. The drag slows your speed. This is a nuisance when you want to move fast and straight ahead in the coral depths. Refer to Mako sharks for more information.

Increasing Speed Underwater
But you if are just starting to join the elect circle of the scuba diving community, scuba flippers with slim fins are right for you. You will wonder why instead of splits, slim fins have open toe pockets. The pockets add force to your kick. It helps coordinate your thighs, hips, and buttock movements. This is important for a beginner who has to get used to exerting more force than usual, being underwater.

If you are ready for force swimming, the bladed fins will give you speed underwater. The blade pushes the water backward when you kick. This is great for the initial forward thrust. Towards the end of the down stroke, the fin returns to its position – poised for the next kick. The scuba flippers with bladed fins actually enhance the muscular activity of your legs. Swimming underwater becomes sheer pleasure.

Paddle fins are common for scuba diving. This helps you move in the water with less exertion. The introduction of the pivoting blades that helps you get the right angle, hence there is more push to your kick.

The scuba flippers with flat fins are slowly being nudged out by split fins. With a vertical split fin, you can slice the water neatly. Water passes between the split and reduces the water pull. This makes propelling forward easier –you don’t have to tire yourself out with repetitive and hard kicking for a single straightforward direction. Sounds easy?

Proper care of your scuba flippers is essential. Once your scuba flippers lose their shape, these will no longer give the propulsion you enjoyed previously. Therefore, in storing your fins, make sure these are placed away from the weight of your scuba gear, and avoid the habit of arranging them in a vertical position.

Health Benefits Too
If you think that snorkeling and swimming are just for fun, think again. These activities have health benefits too. You burn more calories with every stroke, and kick. Your heart muscles become stronger. The advantages out distance the pleasure you get from the swimming faster and better. Visit Dive with sharks for further information.

Taking Your Kids Camping

When you’re camping with kids there’s a lot of effort and patience involved in planning and preparing for the trip. If you don’t prepare well it can be a very tiring and stressful experience.

Aside from the thorough preparation, consideration of the kids’ needs take top priority, leaving little or no room for you and spouse’s. In the end it’s well worth it especially when the kids are having a great time.

Parents seldom get to spend much quality time with their kids so camping with kids can be such a rewarding experience. You won’t mind the extra effort especially if you love your kids so much.

Follow these tips if you want to increase you chances of having a smooth camping trip:

- A good way to help you find out what the kids would need on a camping trip is to ask the kids. For example, do they want to go hiking or fishing or both? Allow them to pack their own things while supervising them along the way.

Treating their opinions with respect gives them that confidence boost they need as they grow up the chance to be involved also teaches them responsibility.

- You don’t need an expensive sleeping bag for kids. A cheap junior sleeping bag is sufficient.

- As a practice run for yourself and the kids try to do some backyard camping before the real trip.

- Make sure you try using your camping gear at home to make sure that they are working perfectly.

- Be sure to teach your kids some safety skills like blowing a whistle when they’re in trouble or how to use a compass.

- At night you can gather round the campfire to sing songs and tell stories.

- Showing the kids the wonders of nature by taking them on hikes will teach them to respect the natural beauty.

- Don’t forget to teach them how to keep themselves safe at the camp. No playing with fire and no swimming in the lake alone are just some of the many rules they have to be familiar about.

- Create games out of camping chores to make them more fun and interesting. For example, engage them in a race for the fastest clean-up.

- Take your kids birdwatching and carry some binoculars so that your kids are interested.

- Remember to take the insect repellent and sunscreen.

- Flashlights and glow sticks are nice companions during the night when your kids’ anxiety grows as night time falls.

- This is perfect for you and the kids to do some star gazing.

- Don’t forget to bring the very important first aid kit for small accidents or mishaps.

- Have some night snacks. Not inside the tent of course. Before you go to sleep, a few chats and chips will surely be a great finale to a great day.

- Bring something for the kids to play with like binoculars or magnifying glass.

- Be sure that you have a camera to capture the unforgetable experience.

Camping with the kids is a cheap vacation alternative especially in these tough economic times. Seeing the kids happy will make the extra effort worthwhile.
